“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”  ~George R.R. Martin

Reading is essential to sharpening the mind and broadening perspectives. For me, reading also provides an escape from my anxiety and depression. If I’m feeling too anxious or depressed, I grab a book and instantly dive into another world.

The summer season is the perfect time to venture off and crack open a few good reads. With the end of summer quickly approaching, I thought I’d share my summer 2017 reading list.

SUMMER 2017 READING LIST

5 Must Read Books on My Summer 2017 Reading List

The following list includes highly recommended books I’ve read or want to read this summer.

  1. The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman

~ This book came out about five years ago and was converted into a movie last year starring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. It’s a historical fiction book about a married couple torn between a major moral decision and then later dealing with the consequences of their decision. If you enjoy WWI era stories then give this book a chance. Also, definitely read this one before you go and see the movie.

  2. Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty

~ By the best-selling author of Big Little Lies (now a HBO miniseries starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon) and the Husband’s Secret, Truly Madly Guilty is the latest novel by Liane Moriarty. It describes the story of a normal married couple who get invited to a party by an old friend, the scandalous events that take place during it, and the after effects. Take this book to the beach and indulge in the exposure of guilt while soaking up some sun!

  3. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

~ This Sci-Fi novel came out in 2011, and the movie adaption (directed by Steven Spielberg) is set to come out next year in 2018. The story’s about a dystopian future where a young man tries to unlock the key to a fortune in a virtual reality game. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to try something different and branch out from romance or drama this summer. It might even open a new interest to books in the Sci-Fi genre.

  4. Seven Stones to Stand or Fall: A Collection of Outlander Fiction by Diana Gabaldon

~ This book is hot off the presses! Released a little over a month ago by the famed author of the Outlander series, this fiction compilation comprises of seven short stories in the Outlander universe. If you’ve read all of the other Outlander books, you need to add this one to your collection. If you haven’t read any of the Outlander books, then I suggest you start now because there’s only one month left this summer to read all eight books!

  5. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

~ A fellow blogger and entrepreneur, Mark Manson uses his own experiences to show how struggling gives life more significance in this atypical self-help book. If you’re looking for a non-traditional self-help guide, this is the right book for you. Or if you’re just looking for some laughs mixed in with a dose of reality, this is the right book for you. Either way you’ll get a kick out of it, but read with caution if you’re not a fan of profanity or bluntness.

I’m quite interested in the last book! I’ve struggled a lot in my life, and at first I hated that part in my life, but as I look back there was so much things that I’ve learned and I didn’t realize!
